Jesus and Mary Are as One Being on the Earth

Here, the Cardinal de Bérulle shows the extent to which the two hearts of Mary and Jesus are as one in love ... So what better way is there to reach Jesus than through Mary, his Mother? And why not allow ourselves to learn the Christian life throug the One whom the Father in Heaven commissioned to bring up His only Son?

Is not Mary, our Mother, the person best placed to show us how to pray, to live according to the gospel message, to observe the sacraments of the Church, in other words to emulate Jesus by dedicating our whole being to Him?

“His mother kept all of these things and pondered them in her heart.” At that moment, Jesus is alive in Mary and is part of her, and Jesus’ heart is very close to Mary's.

At that moment, Mary is alive in Jesus and Jesus is her whole being; Mary’s heart is very close to Jesus’ and exerts influence over His whole life; at that moment, Jesus and Mary are as one being on the earth. The heart of one only beats by virtue of the other. These two hearts, so close to each other and so holy, and living together so sublimely, are they not living as one and in one another? Love alone can discern it, love that is uniquely holy and heavenly; but the love alone of Jesus can understand it ...

O heart of Jesus living in and through Mary! O heart of Mary living in and for Jesus! O sublime union of these two hearts! The Virgin’s heart is the first altar on which Jesus offered his heart, mind and body as a sacrificial victim of everlasting praise, where Jesus first offered himself as a sacrifice and a first, enduring oblation for us.
